This wonderfully Expressionistic oil painting by American artist Eleanor Coen (1916 – 2010) depicts a vibrant red sky in the country with the exciting motion of cyclists descending a bright path on a hillside.

Coen was a student and teacher at the Art Institute of Chicago and was married to artist Max Kahn. Her work appears in numerous collections and museums including the Smithsonian Institution. She won numerous prizes including the American Color Print Society in 1953, Philadelphia Print Club in 1952 and the Chicago show. Eleanor Coen was also called the best painter in Chicago of the 1940s & 1950s era.
