Jiyoung Chung Korean “Joomchi” Paper Artwork

Contemporary artist Jiyoung Chung’s vertical abstract work, titled “Whisper-Romance: Ocean 1,” utilizes a little-known process known as “joomchi,” a 500-year-old Korean paper-making technique that uses water to seal several layers of thin, handmade mulberry papers together to form a single, strong sheet. Jiyoung Chung has brought her unique artistic sensibility to this established medium in a fresh modern approach. This artwork is characterized by layers of round organic overlapping shapes in greys, white and black. The artwork is hung to “float” approximately 3 inches from the wall.
