Wynn Chamberlain was once described by the NY Times as a “pioneer realist painter.” He was a painter, author and film maker and ran in social circles with the likes of Andy Warhol. Oil on linen painting by Shoshannah entitled ‘Private Life’ circa 1959. Shoshannah taught at the Chicago Art Institute and exhibited her works for only a brief part of her life. This piece was purchased from her son and is from a small Mother and Child series that she did in the late 1950’s. Shoshannah’s husband was a cabinet maker and custom made this frame for the piece.
Early Dorothy Fratt Color Block Acrylic Painting
Arizona artist Dorothy Fratt did abstract color block paintings in the 80’s and 90’s. This example is entitled “Gulf of California” and measures 54″ x 42″. Fratt had Rothko’s sensibility for color and subtlety with a hint of the southwest in some of her works. Gulf of California is a large early work for Fratt.
